“To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.”
– William Blake
Sometimes the miracle of life leaves me breathless, it squeezes my heart with overwhelming joy and peace and love – I can feel how the light of hope reaches my eyes and transforms the world I perceive into something new and wondrous.
“My eyes were glued on life
and they were full of tears.”
– Jack Kerouac, Atop an Underwood: Early Stories and Other Writings
Yesterday I went to a bog. I do not know if I have mentioned this before but I live in Estonia and about 22.3% of the land here consists of bogs and swamps. Conditions for flora can be quite harsh in bogs because the water supply is limited and decaying takes a very long time, which causes the soil to be poor in nutrition and is the reason for the formation of peat.
It occurred to me there that not only does nature have incredible beauty but also resilience, strength and perseverance. Trees are usually small in bogs and sometimes their trunks grow in a curled fashion in search for a better way of living. No matter how difficult life can be in a bog, nature finds a way to bring beauty and inspiration to all the earth. Despite the conditions, trees still spring from the ground, they reach for the light and grow the best way they can, they show the brilliance of life. I felt that we are not much different – we too must reach for the light, we too must bear difficult conditions and phases in our lives that teach us to be strong, hopeful and perseverant, we too must grow to the best of our ability, no matter how long it may take, we too must see the brilliance of love in our own lives, no matter how small it may seem to us, and we too must breathe in hope to illuminate the potential of goodness and peace in our hearts.
So maybe the simple things in life matter the most – the life that grows within you is a blessing and you do not always need to strive for something, just a moment of stillness, just a moment of joy and love creates more light for the world than we may realise. Even if tomorrow urgency knocks on your door and demands you to deal with this and that, you still have this moment of quiet joy and appreciation to carry with you through every obstacle, problem and fear – this is how you light your own way: by being aware that life has beauty and it is up to you to bring it forth from your heart.
Therefore, have a blessed morning/day/evening/night!
P.S. I also made cupcakes for a special occasion yesterday. It was the end of something beautiful and I had to remind myself not to forget to celebrate it for giving me the opportunity for a new beginning, even though endings can bring sadness. Because after all
“When one door closes, another door opens; but we so often look so long and regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.”
– Alexander Graham Bell
